I met David only a very few years before his death, but from the start I saw in him a " true gentleman",  upright and with  strongly held  Christian principles. He was interested in all aspects of the world around him, and was only too ready to fight for his beliefs by working for and joining in the work and activities of the church, political party and, I am sure, any other organisation he might have belonged to. Indomitable, only weeks before he suddenly slipped into the last phase of his illness, he came to help me with the planting up of the church flower pots.
